Uniper Program Devices Connect Seniors in Cincinnati to Communities Around the Country

“I think without this program, a lot of people would be a lot lonelier,” said Stanley Slomovits over a recent Zoom call. Slomovits was talking about the Uniper Cares program, which connects seniors through live virtual programming. Seniors from around the country can connect through their TVs and mobile devices to a number of virtual peer-led groups. “I run a current events group where we talk about what’s going on in the news, and I lead an art appreciation group,” he explained.

Jewish Family Service Receives Funds for Holocaust Survivor Care: COVID-19 Pandemic Necessitates Extra Help

“Holocaust survivors are our teachers and our heroes,” said Mark Wilf, the chair of The Jewish Federations of North America’s (JFNA) board of trustees. “With inspiring strength and conviction, they teach us about the past. Now, they are teaching us how to better serve all older adults who have survived trauma.” JFNA’s Center on Aging and Trauma, a project of the Holocaust Survivor Initiative, has just awarded Jewish Family Service a one-year, $66,666 grant.

Jewish Family Service Hires Center for Holocaust Survivors Director

Jewish Family Service is proud to announce Meredith Davis as the new Center for Holocaust Survivors Director. In this role, she will supervise care management staff, administer all grant funding for the center, and direct social and educational group programming. Davis replaces Gail Gepsman Ziegler in the role, who retired in February after 17 years with Jewish Family Service.

Program Helps Survivors Realize Learning Never Ends

A beautiful vision was not only realized but exceeded recently when 92 Holocaust survivors graduated from a program that brought the world to their doorstep through the use of technology. Now confident iPad users, these graduates can video chat with distant family members; take photos; send emails; listen to music from their youth; watch movies, read books or check the news in their native language; or simply search the internet. Holocaust Survivors' Staff Goes to Washington

In late September, staff members of the Jewish Family Service Center for Holocaust Survivors travelled from Cincinnati to Washington, D.C., to attend an important workshop sponsored by Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA). The JFNA Center for Advancing Holocaust Care hosted the annual event at The Carnegie Institution for Science.
