Our Russian Jewish Cultural Center provides a peaceful haven for Russian-speaking immigrants from the former Soviet Union to gather and socialize.
Located at Jewish Family Service's main office and bringing together about 200 older adults, the Russian Jewish Cultural Center boasts a Russian-language library, projects, games, and cultural resources. You can hear many languages spoken here, from Hebrew to Russian to Ukrainian.
With offerings most days of the week, the Russian-speaking attendees enjoy programs designed to engage, inform, or spark laughter. Participants can hear speakers and entertainers, as well as take classes such as Song Club. We also offer field trips to encourage members to explore the Greater Cincinnati region.
The Center grew out of the great post-perestroika opening beginning in 1985, when the USSR first allowed Jews to leave the country, and an enormous wave of Jewish emigration occurred, primarily to Israel and the US. Here in Cincinnati, our community worked hard to support the new immigrants, helping with everything from housing and translation to obtaining work and eventually citizenship. We now provide support for the unique needs of this group as they age.
