Resettlement Acculturation

The Resettlement Acculturation department -including Russian-speaking care managers - helps new Americans from the former Soviet Union and other countries successfully integrate them into their new community.

We offer classes in English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) and Citizenship to help them acquire language skills and begin the acculturation process. Interpretation and translation services help in day-to-day situations such as doctor visits.

The new Americans bring Greater Cincinnati a welcome diversity, valuable skills and unbounded enthusiasm for their new freedom.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

Imagine making Cincinnati your home from another country and knowing little or no English!

Our caring ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) instructors, pictured here, teach English to adult students who speak Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Kyrgyz, French, Spanish, Uzbek or other languages. In addition to becoming acculturated in their new home, the students work hard to learn English so they can better obtain or retain employment. The Jewish Family Service program also helps in the transition to higher education.
