Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Henry Schneider, but everyone calls me Hank. I have lived in Cincinnati since I was 3 years old. My parents(Holocaust survivors) and I (thanks to HIAS) boarded a train to Cincinnati two hours after arrival in New York in 1949.
What is your profession?
I have had a number of opportunities in my working life. I was a cashier at Kroger, a property manager for Bob Kanter’s real estate company, a licensed nursing home administrator, and insurance and real estate professional. Currently, I own a real estate management and development company (Dov Limited) with my sons Ben and Micah, and a long term associate, Doug.
What is your volunteer history?
My volunteer history runs the gamut from being an advisor at Big Brothers to being a board member at my synagogues (Adath Israel in Cincinnati and Congregation B’nai Israel in Harbor Springs, MI), being on the board of the Wellness Community (now Cancer Care Center), the board of the Toots Foundation, Jewish Family Service, and Jewish Federation (campaign co-chair).
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include photography, travel, exercise and my puppy (Sammy).
What is your best dancing asset?
My best dance asset is my wife’s encouragement that allows me to dance even though I have no rhythm and can’t carry a tune.
What inspired you to dance for Jewish Family Service?
My inspiration to dance came from being a former president of Jewish Family Service. So how could I say no.
What don't we know about you that would make someone want to support you?
What would make someone support me is the fact that I am generous to a fault and love to help people.
What did your family say when you told them you were dancing?
When I told my family (and friends) that I had agreed to do DWOS, they all said the same thing: ”You are kidding, aren’t you?”
