Learn to help others readjust to life after a traumatic experience.

Register now for this all-day program which will explore whether resilience is innate or learned, and focus on ways professionals can help adults and children resolve a traumatic event successfully. 6 CEUs available.

In the aftermath of traumatic experiences, such as natural disasters (such as a tornado) or one of human design (such as a family crisis, combat, robbery, or a sexual assault), approximately 70% to 80% of individuals adjust successfully. These individuals will demonstrate resilience, and in some instances, even posttraumatic growth. However, approximately 20% to 30% will evidence lingering clinical disorders or adjustment problems including posttraumatic stress disorders, depression and related difficulties.

Dr. Meichenbaum will discuss and demonstrate the differences between children and adults who evidence resilience and those who have difficulty adjusting. He will present practical and specific ways to bolster resilience in a variety of domains: physical, interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral-emotional, and spiritual.

He will teach methods to strengthen resilience for victimized individuals and those who encounter high-risk life experiences. Dr. Meichenbaum will offer specific examples of trauma-focused interventions, as well as ways to increase resilience on a preventative basis. He will address the role of schools, families, religious leaders and communities to develop and support resilience.
